my mummy's home garden

my mummy is one of the patient, gentle gardeners that i know. she rejoices when the flowers bloom and always put time aside, no matter how busy, to water and nurture her plants. that day as i was waiting at the corridor, then did i realise how much effort and thought she had put into building up her little garden. and i realised that it is actually very beautiful, in a simple and tender way.

i can never be a good gardener! i am too impatient and restless to wait for the flowers to bloom. sometimes i aspire to be like my mother in some ways. yet deep down, i know i cannot reach what is so high up.

infinity dress

with inspiration from here and here, i wanted to try out sewing an "infinity dress", also known as a convertible dress. so i scouted around for tutorials and found two from here and here. here is the result :)

it is rather simple to make with a maximum of 2-3 seams depending on the method that u use. however, it has many raw edges so it cannot be scrutinised :P im pondering if this is a good solution for bridesmaid dresses cos jiemeis can then choose the style that they like and tie it any way they like...but.... hmmm....still have some considerations :)

on a lighter note, PP and i went to the marina barrage, as recommended by AUNTIE and YM :) it was really nice! an lovely mix of excellent infrastructure and nice green grass :) it was a good and timely break, because PP had spent the week studying for his exams. we tried to fly a kite but hmmm...not too successful. not that there was no wind but our kite was lousy and broken :(

still, we had a good time recce-ing the place, so that we can go there with someone else next time...? :) who's on? haha...u must be ready to do jump shots if ure on ;)

the little blue boy

DSC05077

"once upon a time, there was a little blue boy, who lived in a bottle, in a sea of lava. why a sea of lava, nobody knew. why the bottle never melted, nobody knew. he arrived at an island, which was full of green people. feeling weird, he started singing 'im blue, da ber dee da ber dar ber da ber dee...'...."

being a Christian, i cling on to the promise that Christ will one day return for us, and that this earth is merely temporal. hence i do not really suscribe to things like "save the earth or there will not be sufficient resources for future generations...." the world will end one day, for sure and in God's perfect timing..so such attempts are futile.

2 Peter 3:10  But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

of course, use all things in moderation and prevent wastage when you can. this is a basic virtue of frugality. and im in support of saving trees too :)

well, today i came across a "eco-friendly" FONT, introduced here.

ecofont_voorbeeld_klein

"how much of a letter can be removed while maintaining readability? After extensive testing with all kinds of shapes, the best results were achieved using small circles. After lots of late hours (and coffee) this resulted in a font that uses up to 20% less ink."

im not sure if it works, but i guess if it claims to save up to 20% less ink, its worth a try!

exciting day!

its been such an exciting and happening day that i just had to blog about it! WX and HL kindly invited PP and i to pei (accompany) them on their photoshoot day! or rather, to be a SK warrior la, heeheehee. honestly we weren't of much help, plus PP only joined us much later. but well, being in the midst of being with them, i just had a warm fuzzy feeling watching someone that i kinda grew up with radiate so much happiness, blissfulness, and looking so 漂亮 :)

AND...this couple is so sweet and cute la. they do not get tired of smiling for the camera, and u can see so much of their joy as they look into each others' eyes. awww~ :) thank u for asking us along!

as i reflect, WX and HL are clear examples of 2 people who want to do God's will, and act only upon knowing that it is God's will. and even when they got first got together, they clearly wanted to honour God with their relationship. and today, what do we see? God's wonderful blessings upon them: provisions for their marriage in terms of finances, time, and people rallying around them. even today's weather was a perfect testimony of God's goodness upon them! surely, their cup runneth over.. and this is also a great encouragement to us to keep honouring God!

polka dot shoes

DSC05190-pola

do you not know that polka dot shoes are the biggest trend these days?

that's me on the left haha! HL and i were treated to a little something-something (which was SUPPOSED to be a surprise hee) at holland village yesterday, in preparation of a big something-something today! i must say the service offered was excellent, with tea, cookies and chocolate offered to all customers.

explanation about the polka dot shoes: i "sillyly" wore shoes so the nice ladies at serenity cove loaned me a pair of polka dot slippers! how thoughtful of them: allowing me to match the slippers with the polka dot blouse i happened to be wearing (see below) haha. but i felt abit stupid and clownish wearing them :P

i strongly recommend this place! :) but i do not recommend manicures/pedicures on a regular basis. quite expensive, impractical..and vain -_-""

Peanut Porridge

DSC04523

do u like porridge? or peanuts? i am not a big fan of porridge or peanuts, especially on scorching hot days typical in Singapore. yet, i really really like a particular one that PP and i coin "旺旺 porridge" :)

mummy once bought it for me from Taman Jurong Market and Food Centre and from then on all porridge i ate paled in comparison. what's good about it? the broth is just right, the rice is cooked to utter softness, and the final touch of crispy jiang yu (little fried fish) completes it just like how pearls complete bubble tea :)

the store is called "wang wang cooked food" and porridge usually gets sold out by about 10-ish in the morning (yes, that's how good it is hehe..) it is on the 2nd floor, has a prominent yellow sign and has a constant queue of customers :) i apologise for how some of the pictures are blurr/off-centre. i entrusted the task of photography to AHJIJAN, PP's brother!

dip some freshly fried yutiao in the porridge and ure good to go! each bowl sells at $1.00 but if u da bao (takeaway) u have to pay an extra $0.20 for the container. next time, im going to try bringing my own container!

because He lives

SONY DSC

God sent His son, they called Him Jesus
He came to love, heal, and forgive.
He lived and died to buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives.

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, All fear is gone.
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living just because He lives.

today was Easter and we began the day with a sunrise service at Kent Ridge Park. it was a blessed time and i was thankful for the time to reflect and give thanks for what Christ did for me. i prayed a simple prayer not to be distracted by "things" such as my camera, the sunrise, the birds twitching, cute babies....all in all, it is a simple but beautiful blessing to rejoice in the hope that i have, in the midst of His creation.

have been encouraged by Joan who shares much about her thoughts about her walk with God etc on her blog. today, "victory" was the word on my mind. for those who remember, i was looking lifeless last sunday due to some issues, and at that point of time, victory was the last thing i thought was possible. but now, after looking back, what we have overcomed and been blessed with, is truly a testimony of the victory that He gives!

catching the sunrise

recently, PP and I were blessed to be able to catch the sunrise with J, HL and WX. it was supposed to be a "dSLR outing" but by the time we had arrived the sky was lit already. nonetheless, we had a really great time! and took some lovely shots too :)

here are just some of my favourites~i really like the aeroplane picture but it would be better if the plane was more in focus. much room for improvement!

Love

Love comes in different levels. there's that for your friends, a mummy's love, a husband's love. a love for sewing, a love for teaching, a love for things that are nice. yet, these are imperfect. the supreme example of love?

John 15:13  Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

DSC03800

we are not worthy even to be acknowledged as his "friend".

will you be free on this saturday (4th april), at 7.30pm? if so, please come!

drop me an email if you would like to know more. bus services and directions can be found here.

food edition #1

every week, PP and i try to budget and allow ourselves one meal that exceeds $15. not that we are professional foodies, or we go around eating good food.. but we appreciate nice places and food we tink are yummy! i tink eating is one of the things that we probably do the most on our dates haha! we don't watch movies, we don't bowl, we don't KTV (err wats tt?). but we EAT!

this is where we went some weeks ago :) the reviews ain't that good but PP and i like it for the fuss-free-ness (pardon the horrible english) and the convenience! plus we love the San Katong Laksa at Holland Village too :)

DSC02833

DSC02846

this place is ideal for small gatherings. with two types of soup (laksa and chicken), various preferences can be met. the laksa soup is not too spicy, milky enough and tastes good enough with the thick bee hoon. but i like the chicken soup more :) while some people feel ripped off, PP and i like it that the meat is sliced so thinly, making it more tender :) and to make things more exciting, PP and i will... *secret thing* which i tink probably only WX and HL know about ;)

be careful if you drive though, parking can be a major problem! yet, somehow, God always provides a parking lot for us :)

the food place:

404 Telok Blangah Road. turn into a short stretch of shophouses (just behind the bus-stop) for some parking lots.

after your meal? head down to Keppel Island for a nice breezy walk and maybe enjoy a dessert at TCC :)
