a word that carries so much meaning and weight. having been married for 7 months thereabouts, there have been many times when i have been forced to ponder on what does it mean to love? by the interpretations of the world, it means doing crazily romantic things, going to gorgeous places for dates, strong, heady passions... the list goes on...
today, i sat down to rethink (and am still thinking as i type this). what does God say about love? how do i love PP, the way God wants me too? what would it mean to say, "i love you"?
1 Corinthians 13: 4-7
Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
a very good reminder for me, that love is a choice, and requires action. God, help me to love according to your standards, and to learn from your example of how you loved us and gave yourself for us.

The statement "love is a choice" reminded me of the song "Have you counted the cost". While this hymn is an evangelism one which speaks about the cost of not believing in Christ, i think we all need to count our cost very carefully, including the cost of "loving" or "not loving".
It is true that choosing "to love" will surely cost you something, for "to love" is to give/sacrifice. But have you counted the cost of "not loving"? So often the cost of "not loving" is pretty disastrous: for everyone, especially the name of God.
Hope this makes sense, but the hymn ("have you counted the cost") has got me thinking more before i do anything, and of course this post has caused me to think about the "cost" of choosing to love or not. I hope that we will all choose to love, as Christ has done. God bless!
